New Year Interview

Ellen Whitaker2010 was a very exciting year for the Equissage Team. Here we catch up with Ellen Whitaker, Maria Eilberg, Lee Pearson and Piggy French to find out about their proudest moments and reveal what 2011 has in store for them.

New Year Plans and Resolutions with the Equissage Team

Q - Now that the New Year is here and you have had time to reflect on 2010, what was your proudest moment?

Ellen– So far it was winning the British Open Championship. It was an intense competition because it was over so many days and it was a close run competition between me and Robert (Robert Whitaker – Ellen’s cousin) this year.

Maria – Without a doubt making the team for Kentucky and winning team silver.

Piggy – Being selected for the World Equestrian Games.

Lee – Going to the World Equestrian Games, also I am very proud of Gentleman, he has been performing so well this year.

Maria Eilberg

Q – Any regrets?

Ellen– I don’t have any regrets. I am sad that Locarno was injured again this year but there was nothing I could do about it.

Maria– No, my philosophy is that things happen for a reason and mistakes are there to be learnt from.

Piggy– No regrets – I believe everything happens for a reason.

Lee– No, none that I can think of.

Q – How do you intend to celebrate on New Year’s Eve?

Ellen–Wherever I am it will be a party, but I don’t know if it will be in the UK or at a show in Belgium.

Maria– At home with family and friends, very laid back!

Piggy– I’ll be celebrating New Year’s Eve by attending a friend’s wedding.

Lee– I have no plans at the moment but I expect we will celebrate with family and friends.

Piggy French

Q – What are you most looking forward to in 2011?

Ellen– I am hoping to have a couple of new horses for the New Year so I am looking forward to that. I am also looking forward to getting Locarno fit again. And I am looking forward to the Olympic build-up as well.

Maria– New challenges, we have quite a few young horses in who need to be brought on.

Piggy– Everything! I have a great team of horses to compete in 2011 so can’t wait for the season to start.

Lee– I am very excited about producing and riding my new horse. ‘State Premium Silhouette’ is a phenomenal three-year-old from Brightwells bought for me by the Lady Joseph Charitable Trust. I am also looking forward to the European Para Champs in Belgium.

Lee Pearson

Q – Will you be making any New Year’s Resolutions?

Ellen– Not this year.

Maria– I always think about it but at the end of the day if there is anything you want to change why wait until the New Year?

Piggy– Definitely not!

Lee– No, I always end up breaking them anyway!
