SNOOPY HELPS MAKE IT THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE...

Says Kate Robertson

Kate RobertsonEvery girl dreams of getting married... I would say I did more than most! I used to picture how my wedding would be and after my partner James proposed to me last year I’ve spent the last 12 months planning every detail.

One thing I never dreamed would happen was that I would have donkeys at my wedding.

Let me set the scene for you...
I woke up at 2am, 2.30, 3.30 and so on until I couldn’t contain my excitement any longer and finally got up at 6am! Excitement soon turned into nerves as I started getting ready.. I kept thinking what if James doesn’t like my dress! Anyway after a quick chat with my mum I was soon leaping around the house making sure everyone was getting ready and left for the church on time. I think I am one of the only brides to beat some of her guests to the church!

The church was a lovely little place called St John in the Wilderness on the edge of Woodbury Common in Exmouth. Very picturesque. So the wedding started on time and all I could do was gaze into James’s eyes with pure love and admiration. I just kept thinking ‘ life doesn’t get any better than this’. We were surrounded by all our friends and family, and after a week of heavy rain, the sun most certainly had his hat on for us that day.

Now this is where it gets good... After exchanging our vows, signing the register and having our pictures taken it was time to leave the church. Well... words cannot describe how I felt when the beautiful old church door creaked open and the first thing I saw was my favourite donkey in the whole wide world, Snoopy. With him was one of his companions Joe. I know we shouldn’t have favourites but me and Snoopy have a special bond as he recognises my voice and comes and puts his head on my shoulder when I go in the barn.

I managed to hold back my tears of joy throughout the whole service but when I saw that little chap all dressed up with flowers around his neck and a ribbon in his tail I burst into tears.

Not only did having donkeys at my wedding make it the best day of my life I feel truly humble that I work with such amazing friends and colleagues who all rallied around to make my big day a dream come true. I had no idea all this was going on behind my back. I suspect the grooms I work with had a big hand in this - thanks everyone.
