Padworth Common

Padworth Common

Adeliza Cooper writes to Simon Barnett, West Berkshire Council

We will all know who to hold accountable when an accident happens

Says Adeliza Cooper

Says Adeliza CooperI am writing regarding the illegal closure of the South side of Padworth Common and the shoddy treatment of volunteers ready today to start work on the bridleway under the wardens direction.

Firstly we were not warned in advance that the works would not be taking place , the warden obviously new, and it was rude not to bother to contact us till after the event; as a lot of people made complicated arrangements wanting to be there to help.

Secondly there is no excuse for shutting off the bridleway or the rest of the south side of the common while the warden has her holidays. Cannot you see that this action comes across to the users of the common as ridiculously controlling and bitter!particularly as we are entrusting you to do the right thing; it is our common....... everybodys and there is no excuse for shutting it off at a whim for a unlimited period, set willy nilly .

Thirdly we will all know who to hold accountable when an accident happens YOU, as horse riders are forced to ride along the main road, I am one of them, as i can no longer do any kind of safe loop, are our lives and well being and rights so unimportant to you? There seems to be no common sense within the leadership of the counryside department of WBC; did it not occur to anyone to offer us an alternative route across the south side of the common whilst any work does take place, and to close the common for weeks while no work takes place is just criminal.

I look forward to hearing from you soon

I pine for a more sensible approach to saving our forests
