Cattle are dangerous

Paul Gregory describes how he was attacked while walking his dog

Appeals for details from other people who have been attacked by cattle

- I was then knocked to the ground. One cow did the tramping on me to my head, body, my ribs all my left side of my body.

- My injuries were fractured rib x 1; head spit open wound 8 staples; all my left side of my body bruising; leg damaged

- My dog Max could see I was being tramped on. He come back to save his masters life.

- What is the point in having health + safety, if a land owner can have legally cow with calves on a legal right of way ?

- I always ask this question, WHO WILL BE NEXT? In the UK in 8 years figures show there have been 20 deaths 482 injuries some very serious scared for life .

Says Paul Gregory

Says Paul Gregory I am an experienced walker, I am age 49 , I started my L.D.W from St Bees the coast to coast walk , West to East, started date 31/8/12 on my 4th day early start of the Sunday 3rd /9/12 I left SHAP in Cambria, heading East. Near Shap near also to the M.6 motor way and leading to a field part of the C.2.C walk , a field , a stile the field has a legal right of way now know its name of bowman's at first you can not see any cattle , a wall was hiding the herd of now know 25 , Limousin + Belgian Blue mixed breed ,

I always keep a distance from all cattle & in all my past years of backpacking I have never been attacked by any cattle , I always walk with my dog a border collie always on a close lead in a harness, max is age 5 kennel club registered, trained very well behaved , max is my second collie , in all my yrs of backpacking I have walked to many long distance walks to list the Pennine way is only one of many in the uk.

I was walking as said a distance , from the Cows with calves in which I could not see the calves hidden by their mothers, the cattle started to move towards me and yes they can move, if want to I let go of my dog max run forward away, I was then knocked to the ground , one did the tramping on me to my head body my ribs all my left side of my body , one cow does the branding damage.

My injuries where fractured rib x 1, head spit open wound 8 staples, all my left side of my body bruising , leg damaged was lacey to a live my dog max could see I was being tramped on , He come back to save his masters life , in which I made my escape , to the south field which thank god had no cattle in it.

I was found by two Australian walkers who saw the attack , from the stile they I found out later also stayed a night at Shap.

I was air lifted to Carlisle hospital, the two who found me saved my life, blood was pouring from my head.

I later had to get my self as no nobody in Cambria back to SHAP a local looked after max my collie , the very next day very sadly in Pain I had to return home at an extra cost to me buses trains from Kendall to Bedford where I live , the Pains some are still with me , and the shock of it all still is.

What have I done , reported it to the HSE the NFU who make no contact, reported it to the senior countywide access officer in Carlisle as well as the HSE also in Carlisle, report to local solicitors I have dealing in a claim, for my injuries and damaged gear , I was told if not have my rucksack on back my spine would of probably been damaged, I have a M.P now fighting for safety on all are legal rights of ways in the UK, I have worked hard with all legal walking parties ie I am also a member of the BMC the British mountaineering council, the walkers environment all parties have been fighting , for safety on all our legal rights of ways open access to members of the public ,

me and max near swallow falls, Betws-y-coed, north wales What is the point in having health & safety , if a land owner can have legally cow with calves on a legal right of way , I was lucky to be alive , my attack was on a Sunday also a school holiday , I have no children , but would they be here today if in the same field , same time of my attack, 8.40 hrs ish A,M

Yes cattle have to graze moved from 1 field to a another , and so on , give time for grass to grow.

It is common sense - don't have on a legal right of way cows with calves , we have a right to live not be attacked by cattle on a legal right of way. Legislations have to come in change to save lives & injuries for the future , May to November, cows with calves will be on our legal rights of ways again in the Uk , I always ask this question, to all WHO WILL BE NEXT , in the UK in 8 years figures show there has been 20 deaths 482 injuries some very serious scared for life .

The land owner insured will not except liability , you should read his statement , has missed out many things. I had to return to his farm house, after hospital in Carlisle, to get my beloved dog max , a collie he is age 5 , been on many long distance walks with me ,

I am an experienced walker for over 20 yrs, the NFU like to always blame the dog, many of the passed attacks injuries even Deaths are to walkers with NO Dog , you name it I have done it.

The BMC policy officers the walkers environment sent me email in it says , The mixed breeding makes some breeds vey aggressive, the cattle were a Beef heard is mixture of Limousin + Belgian Blue, I read most of the attacks to members of the Public on a LEGAL right of ways in the UK are from LIMOUSIN.

It even seems from the emails letters I get from Carlisle countryside Access senior officer , they are of no help I hope to return to finish the great coast to coast walk, if my Pains are all gone, in the month of May.

I am sick of asking from Orton in Cumbria, which is near SHAP of my Attack , the Cumbria boundary is to the NINE Standards Rigg , passed Kirkby Stephen , I ask which land owners , of your past experience, have live stock ie Cows with Calves very important.

I am told they do not know have no records , sounds crap to me .

They also say Land owners have to make a living , the statement of land owner I know have says cattle have to graze yes we know moved every week from one field to the next so in practice each field is empty for 2 weeks in every 3, giving time for grass to replenish, as an experienced walker I have never been attacked before I always keep to the county code acts keep to all legal rights of ways less told to not do so , ie legal signs tell you to go this way , it seems . Land owners have powers , common sense framers know Cows with Calves are a very high risks to members of the public. My attack was a Sunday also a school holiday the land owner also says the C.2.C walk between 5000 to 7000 walkers complete the walk annually figures I am told from the lake land walker. com,

However the National Parks say we do not know which cattle are aggressive, until an attack , Also the land owner says he moves the heard from field to field , so how can all the number of walkers walk in same field with same Herd ,

I also have two witness who help save my life , witness most of the attack , you will see this in the Westmorland gazette web site paper, ( walkers gave me a mars bar and saved my life ) also Man trampled by cattle in shap , BORDER itv news tues 4/9/12 you see me next to the wall with air ambulance crew you can just see my dog black + white collie the man looking into the field he is and wife who saved my life they also stayed at shap a night , not same B+B I did not know them to they found me next to the gate you can see, I escaped to the field the man is looking into was the field of attack known we know now as Bowman's .

My local M.P is Dealing with Heath + safety to all walkers members of the public on all are Legal rights of ways . , it seems no body is doing nothing to stop this again from MAY on wards Cows will be grazing with calves on are Legal rights of ways open access to the public , WHO will be next I always ask ,

A land owner has a legal right to shoot a dog if feels a treat to live stock , please my dog is trained well behaved always on a harness + lead very close to me , we always keep a distance , walkers still get killed or like me seizes injuries, walkers with NO dog get killed injuries.

Common sense keep all cows with calves of all legal rights of ways , the land owner him self moved the offending cattle , to a another field , after my attack report says , the photos from his insurances show sheep + report says there is sheep , also new stile gates from Green Lane from shap to bowman's field , there is a alternative route land owner says there is not , the path goes over the M.6 to a small hamlet Hardendale in which you walk south from it to wards ORTON part of the C.2.C walk path.

I have an email from a shop manager I know in Kendal know of him, he owns a shop in his email he said he supports all who wish to save lives injuries stop this again from hampering, he then says but sorry to say Paul Land owners are kings of there Land , do you know of any walkers who have been attacked I need to talk to as many as poss you can pass my contact info on to them , cows with Calves have to stay of a legal rights of ways.
