Says Adrienne Yentis

Says Adrienne YentisA friend of mine recently was riding on the heath
and she came across a group of cattle strung out across the bridlepath with no way through – the only way off was to turn round. Fortunately her horse
remained calm throughout. But you can imagine how a nervous horse might react ........... read more

Whitehill & Borden Equestrian Desire Lines
and Hampshire County Council

Comments Peter Parkinson

- Hampshire County Council's plan is slovenly. To my mind the whole plan is slovenly, because the principle question it answers is what is the most expedient route which would cost the least ?

- Liphook Road attachment simply shows the southern end of the existing A325 through Whitehill, with none of the additions mentioned in her note. Again not reassuring.

- Finally I don't understand how you are supposed to be able to offer 'an indication of the equestrian desire lines along the route', when they are not revealing clear details of the route.

Says Tony Barnett As a concerned 'eco-town' watcher, who has monitored the progress of this plan since the beginning, my immediate reaction is that Louise Berrrridge ( Senior Engineer, Major Schemes & Projects, Strategic Transport Group, Economy, Transport & Environment Department, Hampshire County Council) spelling Bordon as 'Borden' is indicative of a less than meticulous approach to this plan. It is slovenly. To my mind the whole plan is slovenly, because the principle question it answers is what is the most expedient route which would cost the least ?

Not what is the most ecologically aware and sensitive route which would fulfil their repeated claims to 'increase biodiversity', to support the development of what - despite downgrading standards and expectations - they still insist on calling an 'eco-town'. Having assured us that they 'would not build on Hogmoor Inclosure'. They are now proposing to build a heavy traffic route, ploughing right through Hogmoor and the Croft.

It is quite clear that only lip service is being paid to protection of the countryside and in this case the SINC - Site of Interest for Nature Conservation - which they designated themselves. For several years now, the masterplan documents have shown the inner relief road routed through the new development, only impinging on Hogmoor at the very southern end. As indeed the map printed in the Herald last Thursday shows quite clearly ( also as their Appendix A).

It is simpler, easier and quicker to cut through Hogmoor and the Croft, avoiding all that demolition work on the MoD site. And of course - even better - leaving more land for house-building, with developers having to pay the demolition costs. They have been very coy about their proposed route since the beginning - as the documents in the hants.gov meetings link clearly show, even considering not releasing a preferred route.

I can't open the image attachment, and the Liphook Road attachment simply shows the southern end of the existing A325 through Whitehill, with none of the additions mentioned in her note. Again not reassuring. Finally I don't understand how you are supposed to be able to offer 'an indication of the equestrian desire lines along the route', when they are not revealing clear details of the route.

We moved to a Shropshire location a year ago having surveyed the local OS map and noted the significant number of bridleways around the property. Sadly the map appears a total fiction. Scarce any of the bridleways are usable ........... read more
